Artist's Statement
As a child, I was intrigued with all the tiniest details.
I colored strictly within the lines. Absolutely.
And started over again if I even thought I was beyond.
Over my lifetime and career in interior design, I've found it's been much more fulfilling to stretch boundaries, and step out beyond my rigid, self-imposed lines.
Encaustic, melted beeswax mixed with damar resin, has become my new-found catalyst for endless artistic possibilities, mostly unpredictable. I'm most captured with the lovely translucency of this pigmented wax, building up thinnest layers and allowing the fusing heat of the torch to render the outcomes.
Abstract and organic outcomes: Freedom, beyond.
Use of texture, combining color and pattern, compositional development--all elements used as a designer--are built into my painting process inherently. But I find in the end result, the crowning achievement lies in the beautifully rich luminosity achieved when light filters through those intricately stacked layers of this ancient medium, encaustic.
And lastly, I carefully polish the finished piece to glisten like glass.
I'm beyond intrigued with all the tiniest details!
